Master BJJ Concepts: Think, React, & Dominate—Step by Step! - JIU JITSU JUMPSTART BLUEPRINT - 2026 October
Master essential Gi and No-Gi BJJ concepts with Matt Arroyo’s step-by-step training for positions, control, escapes, attacks, and counters.
Understand What to Do From Every Major BJJ Position
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu contains thousands of techniques, making it easy for beginners—and even experienced students—to feel overwhelmed or lost during live training.
The Jiu Jitsu Jumpstart Blueprint by Matt Arroyo takes a concept-first approach to learning BJJ. Instead of presenting a disconnected collection of moves, the course explains the purpose of each major position, what your opponent is likely trying to accomplish, and how you can defend, attack, counter, or advance.
The training applies to both Gi and No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu. It is designed to help students think more clearly during rolls, recognize common patterns, and make better decisions without attempting to memorize every possible technique.

What’s Included in the Course?
Welcome and Foundations
The opening lessons explain how the course is organized and how to use the material alongside regular training.
Students receive an overview of common MMA and Jiu-Jitsu starting positions, basic movements, and the strategic principles that connect the later modules.
Starting From the Knees and Feet
Learn how to begin rounds with better awareness, positioning, and control.
The course addresses starting from both the knees and standing positions, helping students understand the different offensive and defensive priorities involved.
When to Tap and Overall Defense
Recognizing when a submission is secured is an essential part of training safely.
This section explains when to tap, how to approach submission defense, and why survival and positional awareness should come before risky escape attempts.
Bottom and Top Guard
The guard modules examine both sides of the position.
From bottom guard, you’ll learn how to control, attack, defend, and create opportunities for sweeps or submissions. From top guard, you’ll study the opponent’s objectives, your offensive priorities, and how to advance toward stronger positions.
Top and Bottom Side Control
Learn how side control works from both perspectives.
The top-position lessons focus on pressure, control, attacks, and positional advancement. The bottom-position material covers your opponent’s objectives and the steps required to escape or recover a safer position.
Top and Bottom Mount
The mount modules explain how to maintain and attack from one of BJJ’s most dominant positions.
When underneath mount, you’ll study defensive priorities, common threats, and the process of escaping without exposing yourself to unnecessary attacks.
Back Control and Back Defense
Discover how to control and attack when you have an opponent’s back.
The defensive section covers recognizing danger, protecting against finishes, escaping control, and recovering into a stronger position.
Top and Bottom Half Guard
From top half guard, the course explores pressure, control, passing, and advancement.
From bottom half guard, you’ll learn how to prevent the opponent from settling into control while creating opportunities for sweeps, reversals, attacks, and positional improvement.
Jiu-Jitsu Etiquette
The final section covers important gym etiquette, respectful training habits, and actions that should be avoided.
These lessons can help newer students train more safely and become better partners on the mat.
